وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَن يُقْتَلُ فِى سَبيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتٌ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ وَلَكِن لاَّ تَشْعُرُونَ

And say not of those who are killed in the way of Allah, “They are dead.” Nay, they are living, but you perceive (it) not.

[Surah Baqarah V154]

This verse was revealed regarding sahaba  رضي الله عنهم martyred at Battle of Badr.

Ubay ibn Ka`b  relates: I said, “O Messenger of Allah  صلى الله عليه وسلم, I send much blessings (salawat) on you. What proportion of my prayer should I devote to you?” He said, “As much as you like.” I said, “A quarter?” He said, “As much as you like, and if you increased it would only be better for you.” I said, “Then a half?” He said, “As much as you like and if you increased then it would only be better for you.” I said, “Then two thirds?” He said, “As much as you like and if you increased it would only be better for you.” I said, “I’ll devote all of my prayers (du’a) to sending blessings on you.” The Prophet  صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “In that case it will suffice you from your worries and your sins will be forgiven. “

When death approached Bilal  رضي الله عنه, his wife said, “We will grieve over him.” He  رضي الله عنه said, “Rather we will be joyous over him; tomorrow we will meet the beloved ones – Muhammad  صلى الله عليه وسلم and his party.”

[Ithaaf saadaat il-muttaqeen 14/208]

While passing away Mu’adh  رضي الله عنه said, “O Allah, I used to fear You, but today I hope in You…”

Repentance of Zadhan al-Kindee at the hands of Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه

Zadhan said:

I was a young boy with a nice voice and great ability to play the flute. Once, I was with one of my friends we had wine while I entertained them with music. Then, Ibn Mas’ud  رضي الله عنه passed by us and hit the wine container wasting its content, broke the lute and said: “If what is heard of your nice voice, O young boy, is the Qur’an, I wish I was like you” and then he moved on. So, I said to my companions: “who is this?” They said: This is Ibn Mas’ud  رضي الله عنه.” So, it occurred to me that I turn to Allah in repentance. I followed him crying and held his cloth. He turned towards me, embraced me and then said, “The one loved by Allah is welcomed. Sit (here). Then he entered and brought me some dates.
