Is the love for the sake of Allah?

Abu Idris al-Khawlani said:

I entered the mosque of Damascus, where I saw a young man who had a bright smile, and I saw the people gathered around him. When they disagreed on some matter, they referred it to him, and accepted his opinion. I asked who he was, and they told me, ‘This is Mu’adh Ibn Jabal ‘ Early the next day, I went to the mosque but I found that he had arrived earlier than me. He was praying, so I waited until he had finished, then I approached him from in front, greeted him and said, ‘By Allah, I love you.’ He asked,’ For the sake of Allah?’ I said,’ For the sake of Allah.’  He repeated the question,  ‘For the sake of Allah?’ And I said,’ For the sake of Allah.’ So he took hold of my collar, pulled me towards him and said, ‘I have good news for you. I heard the Prophet

“Allah says: ‘My love is granted to those who love one another for My sake, who visit one another for My sake, and who spend on one another for My sake.'”

Sahaba at the time of death

When death approached Bilal  رضي الله عنه, his wife said, “We will grieve over him.” He  رضي الله عنه said, “Rather we will be joyous over him; tomorrow we will meet the beloved ones – Muhammad  صلى الله عليه وسلم and his party.”

[Ithaaf saadaat il-muttaqeen 14/208]

While passing away Mu’adh  رضي الله عنه said, “O Allah, I used to fear You, but today I hope in You…”

When death was at hand…

When death was at hand, Mu’adh ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه) said:

Welcome to a visitor who has come when he is most needed (ie death). The one who regrets does not succeed. O Allah, you know that I never wanted to stay in this world to build waterways or to plant trees, but I wanted to stay in order to spend long nights in prayer and long hours during the day fasting and feeling thirsty in the intense hear, and to be with the scholars in circles of dhikr.

Check everything you hear against the Qur’an , but do not check the Qur’an against anything that you hear.

When Mu’adh Ibn Jabal  (رضي الله عنه) was stricken with the plague of ‘Amwas (from which he passed away), his companions wept over him and he said, ” Why are you weeping?” They said,”We are weeping for the knowledge which will be cut off when you die.” He said:

Knowledge and faith will abide  until the Day of Resurrection. Whoever seeks them will find them in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Check everything you hear against the Qur’an , but do not check the Qur’an against anything that you hear.

Anas (رضي الله عنه) said:

The Qur’an was compiled during the lifetime of the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) of Allah by four men, all of them who are among the Ansar: Ubay Ibn K’ab, Mu’adh, Zayd Ibn Thabit and Abu Zayd (رضي الله عنهم).

Mu’adh (رضي الله عنه) advice to his son

leave a comment »

Mu’adh Ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه) once said to his son, “My dear son, when you stand up in prayers, do so as a departing person bidding farewell to this world, and do not assume that you will have another chance to pray again. My dear son, know that a believer dies between two deeds, one he offers for the present day (wherein he will immediately garner its blessings, and the second deed he offers for the hearafter, (and that is when he will reap ultimate benefits).

Renewing Iman

leave a comment »

We were walking with Mu’adh Ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه) when he (suddenly) said to us, “Let us sit here for an hour and renew our iman (ie remember Allah)”
