Night Prayer

Zayd Ibn Aslam narrated from his father that ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattab رضي الله عنه used to pray the night prayer for as long as Allah had decreed for him. When the last part of the night arrived he would wake his family saying: ‘The Prayer! The Prayer! And he would recite the verse:

“And enjoin Salah on your family, and be patient in offering them. We ask not of you a provision: We provide for you. And the good end is for those who have Taqwa” [Taha: 132]

…sins like the mountains of Tihamah

It has been reported that ‘Umar رضي الله عنه said: “If a man comes out of his house carrying a burden of sins like the mountains of Tihamah, then when he hears some knowledge he fears Allah and repents, he will go back home with no sins on him. So do not separate yourselves from the gatherings of the scholars.”
