When death approached Bilal  رضي الله عنه, his wife said, “We will grieve over him.” He  رضي الله عنه said, “Rather we will be joyous over him; tomorrow we will meet the beloved ones – Muhammad  صلى الله عليه وسلم and his party.”

[Ithaaf saadaat il-muttaqeen 14/208]

While passing away Mu’adh  رضي الله عنه said, “O Allah, I used to fear You, but today I hope in You…”

I would have paid them

اشترى أبو بكر بلالا وهو مدفون في الحجارة بخمس أواق ذهبا ، فقالوا : لو أبيت إلا أوقية لبعناكه ، قال : لو أبيتم إلا مئة أوقية لأخذته

Sa’id Ibn ‘Umar narrated that Bilal al Habashi (رضي الله عنه) was under heavy torture and he was buried alive under heavy stones when  Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) came and bought his freedom for five measures of gold. After accepting the deal, the Quraishi headman remarked to Abu Bakr, “I would have sold him to you even if you had insisted and bargained on a single measure of gold.” Abu Bakr replied, “Should you even had insisted on asking hundred measures of gold for his freedom, I would have paid them.”

Bilal has succeeded

Imam Ahmad recorded that Ibn `Abbas said: “On the night when the Messenger of Allah was taken on his Night Journey, he entered Paradise, in some part of which he heard a sound. He said, `O Jibril, what is this’ He said, `This is Bilal, the Mu’adhdhin.’ When the Prophet came back to the people, he said,

«قَدْ أَفْلَحَ بِلَالٌ، رَأَيْتُ لَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا»

(Bilal has succeeded, I saw that he will have such and such.)

Sayyidina Ali ibn Abu Talib reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said,

“Every Prophet is given seven eminent men who are his friends, but I am given fourteen.”

They asked him,

“Who are they?”

He said,

“I and my two sons and Ja’far, Hamzah, Abu Bakr, Umar, Mus’ab ibn Umayr, Bilal, Salman, Ammar, Miqdad, Hudhayfah and Abdullah ibn Masud.

turn not away those who invoke their Lord…

mam Muslim recorded in his Sahih that Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas who said: “There was a group of six of us with the Prophet . The idolators said, `Tell these people to leave so they will not offend us.’ There was myself, Ibn Mas`ud, a man from Hudayl, Bilal and two other men whose names I have forgotten. Allah’s Messenger thought to himself about whatever Allah willed he should think about, then Allah revealed:

[وَلاَ تَطْرُدِ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِىِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُ]

(And turn not away those who invoke their Lord, morning and afternoon.)

Footsteps of Bilal in Jannah

Prophet- Sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam- said to Bilal- Allah be pleased with him:

I entered paradise and I heard the noise of your shoes (footsteps) before me in paradise. So inform me of your deeds you performed for which you are most hopeful (of being rewarded for) in Islam.

He- Allah be pleased with him- said:

I have not performed any deed for which I hope for more benefit than this one: I do not perform a complete purification at any time during the night or day, except that I pray with the purification that which Allah has written for me to pray.

Do not be upset because you are black

Al-`Awza`i said, “`Abdur-Rahman bin Harmalah told me; `A black man came to Sa`id bin Al-Musayyib to ask him a question, and Sa`id bin Al-Musayyib said to him:

Do not be upset because you are black, for among the best of people were three who were black: Bilal, Mahja` the freed slave of `Umar bin Al-Khattab, and Luqman the Wise, who was a black Nubian with thick lips.
