Abu Bakr[RA] speech as the khaleefah

leave a comment »

Hazrat ‘Orwah stated that when hadhrat Abu Bakr[RA] became caliph, he gave a sermon to the people. He praised and lauded Allah and the said:

“Thereafter… O People! I have become a guardian over your affairs and I am not better than you.

But the Quran has been revealed and His Holiness[Sallallahu alayhi wasallam] has stated the sunnahs from which we have known that a more sagacious man amongst the wise is he who is pious and the most foolish amongst the fools is a sinner.

The strongest amongst you is weak in my sight until I realise his right for him and the weakest amongst you is strong in my sight until I realise the right from him.

O People! I am a follower, not an inventor of new shariah. If I do a good work, assist me and If I go awry, set me right. This is the thing I say and seek pardon from Allah for myself and for you”
